China Imports Record Amount of US Pork

US pork imports to China hit a new high in September of 41,000 tons, according to the US Department of Agriculture (USD).
China imported a total of 600,000 tons of pork between January and July, a 37.9% growth over the the same period of 2010, according to data from China’s Ministry of Commerce.
US pork enjoys a substantial price advantage over others on the market, selling for 9.5 yuan per kilogram ($0.68 per pound) compared to 11.5 yuan per kilogram ($0.82 per pound) for European pork. Pork raised in China costs 17 yuan per kilogram ($1.22 per pound).
