Vania King Upsets Stosur to Reach 3rd Round of U.S. Open

Wild-card entry Vania King of the United States has upset No. 15 seed Samantha Stosur of Australia in the second round of the U.S. Open.
The 114th-ranked King won 7-5, 6-4 on Wednesday to advance to the third round at a Grand Slam for the first time. Stosur reached the semifinals at the French Open this year.
She was born February 3, 1989 in Monterey Park, California to Taiwanese American parents who immigrated to the United States in 1982. Her older brother Phillip, was a two-time U.S. junior champion and a four time All-American at Duke Universit. King is a member of the U.S. Fed Cup team. She turend pro in July of 2006 and reached her career-high ranking of number 50 in the world that year.
King teamed up with Marcelo Melo to reach the Mixed Doubles final at the 2009 French Open. They lost to top seeds Liezel Huber and Bob Bryan. She paired with Anna-Lena Groenfeld to reach the Wimbledon quarter finals in June 2009. They lost to the team of Venus and Serena Williams.
King sang America the Beautiful at the opening ceremonies of the 2009 U.S. Open.
