German Exports Surged 22.5% in September

Germany’s Federal Statistics Office says exports rose 22.5 percent in September compared the same month a year ago as the country continues its recovery from the financial crisis.

The Wiesbaden-based office said Monday that preliminary figures show exports rose to euro86.9 billion ($122.4 billion) in September, compared to euro70.9 billion in September 2009.

The agency says imports were up 18 percent to euro70.1 billion ($98.7 billion) in September 2010.

Germany’s foreign trade balance shows a surplus of euro16.8 billion ($23.66 billion) in September 2010, compared to a surplus of euro11.5 billion ($16.2 billion) in September 2009.

Germany, Europe’s biggest economy, has seen a strong recovery this year led by its exports.
