ITC Clears Samsung, LG of Dumping Refrigerators

On Tuesday the US International Trade Commission (ITC) ruled in favor of Samsung and LG in an anti-dumping case filed by US fridge maker Whirlpool.

The US refrigerator industry has not been harmed by imports of bottom-mount combination refrigerator-freezers made by Samsung and LG in Korea and Mexico, ruled the ITC in a 5-0 ruling that overturns an earlier Commerce Department finding that Samsung and LG had dumped their products in the US at less than fair value.

The ITC ruling lets the firms bring in their bottom-mount combination refrigerator-freezers without the tacking on of punitive dumping duties.

“We believe the facts clearly demonstrated that dumped imports of bottom-mount refrigerators from Korea and Mexico are causing injury to the U.S. industry,” said Marc Bitzer, president of Whirlpool North America, in a press release. Whirlpool is a Michigan-based producer of home appliances.
