LG to Unveil Super-Thin LED TV
LG Electronics Inc. will unveil an 8.8-milimeter-thick LED TV at the annual Berlin IFA consumer electronics show in September, the company announced at its Seoul headquarters.
LG is the world’s number two maker of LCD TVs behind Korean rival Samsung Electronics Co. which released a 7.98-millimiter-thick LED TV in April. It currently sells for about $8,300.
The new LG model will be known as the “Nano TV,” when it goes on sale in Korea, Germany and France in September. LG hopes to sell 3 million units next year. LG’s home entertainment devision logged a 90% drop in profits despite a 19% jump in sales.
Global LCD TV shipments are projected to rise from 184.1 million this year to 226.7 million next year, according to CLSA Asia- Pacific Markets analysts Matt Evans and Minji Ha, JoongAng Daily reported.
