Raj Murti, Age 23, Orchestrates UNT’s Record Winning Season
By James Moreau | 05 Dec, 2025
Football’s youngest GM delivered 11 wins and a potential College Football Playoff bid for North Texas with an analytics-driven “Moneyball” operation.
Raj Murti has proven to be college football’s most dynamic front-office talent in just his first season as North Texas’ General Manager.
At the age of 23 he became the nation’s youngest GM, overseeing the roster, recruiting and personnel departments. Murti calls the experience a “whirlwind.” In his first two weeks he had to assess the monetary value of each player, something he had never done before.
With only $2 million, the smallest roster budget in the American Conference, Murti orchestrated the college football version of Moneyball. UNT being in DFW, a football recruiting hotbed, Murti focused on high school players while leaning on analytics for transfers.
In the pay-for-play era eased transfer rules, the inception of NIL collectives and revamped revenue sharing models have made the general manager role a necessity. Top-tier program GMs earn high 6-figures, with the highest salaries hitting $1.5M annually.
Eight months into his job Murti’s North Texas is ranked 20th in the AP poll, its first appearance since 1959, thanks to its11 wins, the most in program history. Murti’s eye for talent has helped build the nation’s top scoring offense, averaging 47 points and 512 yards per game.
The Mean Green are now favored to win the American Conference Championship game. It would be their first title in over 20 years. A win would put them in the college football playoff with an autobid as the highest rated Group of 6 champion.
Raj Murti, who is of Indian and Malaysian descent, began his football career at Arlington’s Martin High School as a student assistant helping with film, equipment, and scouting. He made his first play call as a sophomore.
While still in high school he earned 52 hours of college credits making him a junior when he enrolled at the University of Houston. In 2021 Murti graduated Summa Cum Laude in just 2 years with a BBA in finance.
Murti chose Houston after being introduced to Ryan Dorchester, the GM at the time. The connection allowed him, at just 18, to join the Cougars as a recruiting intern. He became Houston’s primary contact and evaluator for offensive recruits and earned a promotion to Assistant Director of Player Personnel in 2023.
At UH Murti secured the highest recruiting class since 2016 which included wide receiver Matthew Golden, a 2025 first-round pick in the NFL Draft.
The personnel prodigy followed Dorchester to TCU in 2024 as a Recruiting Coordinator and later Assistant Director of Player Personnel. He helped the Horned Frogs land the Big 12’s No. 1 ranked recruiting class.
On December 1st it was reported that Murti will follow UNT head coach Eric Morris to Oklahoma State to become the youngest GM at the P4 level.
