The “Best Friend” rapper draws from her Filipino-Chinese heritage to connect with a diverse international audience.
By anchoring her tracks in nostalgic samples and West Coast swagger, multi-platinum rapper Saweetie has delivered consistent releases of club anthems that define the modern party playlist.
The artist of Filipino-Chinese heritage first commanded the spotlight in 2017 with the viral success of “Icy Grl,” an aspirational song that showcased her silky-smooth signature flow.
In 2019 she continued her ascent with the crunk revival anthem “My Type.” The quadruple-platinum certified track peaked at number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 and is her second most popular song.
Saweetie dominated the airwaves with the 2020 Bay Area homage “Tap In” further continuing her string of hits built off aught-era samples.
Her highest charting single, “Best Friend,” was released the following year in collaboration with Doja Cat. It received a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Song and been streamed over a billion times.
Expanding her global reach in 2024, Saweetie collaborated with the K-pop girl group IVE on the high-energy single “All Night.”
Her digital footprint remains massive in 2026, boasting over 6 million monthly listeners on Spotify and a combined social media following exceeding 25 million. Saweetie’s status has earned her brand deals with McDonald’s, Postmates, and MAC Cosmetics.
The 32-year-old NorCal native earned a bachelor of communications from USC in 2016. With a star-studded family tree, her mother, who she has referred to as “the Filipino queen,” is a former video vixen who appeared in the music video for Nelly’s “Ride Wit Me.” Additionally, Gabrielle Union is her first cousin once removed.
While Saweetie has been mum on music releases in 2026, her May performance at the inaugural International Dance League spotlighted her enduring popularity.
